ABOUT
Roo works predominately with female portraiture, inspired by Antique photographs and historical items, exploring themes of beauty ideals, aging, and youth. Works often incorporate a sense of time, both in concept and material, through the use of Vintage and Antique personal objects such as compact mirrors, jewellery boxes and leather gloves.
Roo also creates playful paintings that reinterpret historical portraits, blending them with contemporary and retro phrases with a humorous and thought-provoking twist.
Funded by The Arts Council, immersive art installations have been created, exploring themes of aging and menopause. Vintage and Antique mirrors transformed the interior space of a shipping container, with audio and film from community sessions being central to the project, these create a reflective and emotionally resonant space. The installation space invited viewers to engage with often-silenced experiences, encouraging introspection and dialogue.
Roo has participated in live painting events, creating murals for both interior and exterior spaces. Original larger works have been consistently sold through solo exhibitions and internationally at art events such as the Affordable Art Fair.
